Drink­ing Song

glass of milkI thought up the first stanza of this poem not long after my son was born, and it was meant to be in the voice of a baby enthu­si­as­tic for the taste of food that no longer had to enter through the belly but­ton. Many years later, I adapted it for a mag­a­zine humor com­pe­ti­tion, this time cast­ing it in the voice of a some­what creepy grown-​up. It didn’t win the com­pe­ti­tion, but Snake­skin pub­lished it any­way.
